Dental prosthesis
There are several types of denture, but they are generally divided into two broad categories: Fixed Dentures and Removable Dentures.
Fixed Dental Prosthesis
The purpose of a fixed prosthesis is to replace a damaged or broken part of a tooth or even a missing tooth permanently. It then behaves like your natural tooth. It is an ideal solution for restoring your smile or even making it more beautiful. It will also enable you to chew your food. It can be made:
- With metal (CCM) as the base, coated with white ceramic. This is an economical solution, but the aesthetic result is mediocre.
- It can be made entirely of ceramic (CCC), a more expensive solution than CCM, but very aesthetic, especially in the anterior region.
Benefits
- Longevite
- Fixed
- Esthetics
- Good biocompatibility
- Excellent fit and comfort
Disadvantages
- Mutilates the tooth itself and sometimes even neighbouring teeth
- More expensive than Removable
Fixed prostheses on natural teeth

Dental Crown
Restores a damaged or decayed tooth by relying on its root.

Dental Bridge
Replaces one or more teeth by resting on the neighbouring teeth (one or two on each side).

Inlay/Onlay/Overlay
Replaces the damaged part of the tooth.

Veneer/Hollywood Smile
It camouflages spots, discolourations and any irregular shape. Their main purpose is aesthetic.
Fixed prostheses on dental implants

Single implant
A single implant is used to replace a single tooth. The prosthesis consists of a single artificial crown screwed or cemented onto the implant.

Implant Bridge
It is used to replace several missing teeth. The prosthesis consists of a pontic of 3 artificial crowns screwed or cemented onto the implant.

All on 4/ All on 6
This technique is used to permanently install a complete dental prosthesis (denture) in a totally edentulous patient. This recent technique makes it possible to support a complete dental prosthesis on 4 or 6 implants.
Removable Dental Prosthesis
The removable prosthesis is a treatment that restores and maintains the disturbed oral environment. Its objective is twofold:
- Direct objective: to replace lost teeth.
- Indirect objective: to preserve the balance of the remaining teeth, bone and mucosa, as well as the temporomandibular joint.
There are two types of removable dental prosthesis: I-Removable prosthesis Complèyou II-Partial removable prosthesis
I. Complete removable prosthesis (PAC)

Known as a denture or total removable prosthesis, this is a device that replaces all the teeth on a single dental arch (top or bottom), as well as part of the gum. It consists of a pink acrylic resin base and teeth in a variety of colours and shapes, adapted to the patient's preferences.
The benefits:
- Affordable price
- Identical to natural teeth
- Easy to apply and remove
- High mechanical resistance
- Possible relining
Disadvantages
- Affordable price
- Identical to natural teeth
- Easy to apply and remove
- High mechanical resistance
- Possible relining
II. Partial removable prosthesis (PAP)

A partial denture is a prosthesis with a rigid metal frame that replaces part of the teeth using clasps. There are 3 types:
Partial Removable Resin Prosthesis (PAPR)
Made up of a pink acrylic resin plate covering the gum. It is fixed with small shaped metal hooks.
Partial removable prosthesis in Valplast
Valplast is made from a basic material: nylon, and replaces traditional resin. It is unbreakable, highly aesthetic, flexible and extremely comfortable for the patient.
Partial removable prosthesis with metal infrastructure (PAPIP)
Also known as Stellite, a metal plate covering the gum serves as a support for missing teeth. Stellite is "attached" in the mouth by hooks that are placed around the remaining natural teeth.
Benefits
- Low cost
- Can replace many teeth
- They also replace the gums
- Possibility of adding other teeth (except valplast)
Disadvantages
- You need to be vigilant about oral hygiene
- Increases the risk of cavities and periodontal disease
- Difficult to accept, especially for young patients
- Bulky
- Unsightly if it looks like a hook
